The initial group started as volunteers for the local food bank\, singing carols in various locations and raising over $1\,000. \nEvolving from this small group\, the choir is now 24 members strong. We just found out that Caleb Oman will be singing a few tunes with the choir as well! \nNove Voce Choir members consist of teachers\, students\, activists and so much more. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the opening of OUTSIDE with Artist Karine Locatelli. \n“This project involves a series of landscape representations deployed on the wall\, floor\, and center of the exhibition. Drawings on canvas\, ceramics\, loom-woven textiles\, woodcuts\, embroideries\, and photographs are presented by means of an installative approach. This approach allows me to recreate the sensation of one’s wandering along a trail\, where the viewer is active\, skirting through\, bending down\, or in a state of nearing\, in order to perceive the intricate details occupying their environment. The exhibited pieces present landscapes observed in different regions of Québec\, influenced by the various means of transportation that characterize my artistic practice\, from sailboats\, ferries\, and cargo ships to bicycles\, walks\, pickup trucks\, and more. The works present a contemplative approach valuing the nordicity of our land\, its varied patterns\, and the complexity of its issues. I want my work to reflect a poetic\, benevolent\, and feminist vision towards the territory.” \nOutside is project in collaboration with the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul. \nAbout the Artist:\nKarine Locatelli lives in the region of Charlevoix in Quebec\, Canada. Through the representation of landscapes in drawing\, she continues the pleinariste tradition distinctive of her region. \nShe has held collective or solo exhibitions and artist residencies in Canada\, United States\, Portugal\, and France. Her works can be found in public and private collections\, including those of the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul\, the Musée BPS 22 (Belgium)\, the Centre de la Gravure et de l’Image Imprimée (Belgium) the TD Bank of Toronto\, and Hydro-Québec. \nIMA’s Public Gallery is supported by the Province of BC.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 20 years \nIn June 2004\, Julia Mackey travelled to Normandy\, France\, for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. She attended many ceremonies\, walked the coastline and interviewed dozens of veterans who had returned for the occasion. The experiences of the veterans\, her own discoveries\, and a life long interest in Remembrance Day\, led to the development of the play in August of 2006 at The Sunset Theatre in Wells\, BC. \nTHE PLAY \nJake’s Gift is a multi-award winning Canadian play about a World War II veteran’s reluctant return to Normandy\, France\, for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. While revisiting the shores of Juno beach\, Jake encounters Isabelle\, a precocious 10-year-old from the local village. Isabelle’s inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to confront some long-ignored ghosts – most notably the war-time death of his eldest brother\, Chester\, a once promising young musician. At its heart\, Jake’s Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and makes personal the story behind one soldier’s grave. \nSince 2007\, Jake’s Gift has gone on to play at festivals and theatres in over 250 communities across Canada\, including International stops to Washington State\, the UK and Normandy\, France\, for the 70th & 73rd Anniversary of D-Day. In June 2019\, the company returned to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. They presented performances in both French and English at the Juno Beach Centre and La Salle de la Mer in Bernières sur Mer as well as other communities and venues in Normandy. \nIn December 2025\, Julia received the Governor General Meritorious Service Cross Award for her work on Jake’s Gift.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 20 years \nIn June 2004\, Julia Mackey travelled to Normandy\, France\, for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. She attended many ceremonies\, walked the coastline and interviewed dozens of veterans who had returned for the occasion. The experiences of the veterans\, her own discoveries\, and a life long interest in Remembrance Day\, led to the development of the play in August of 2006 at The Sunset Theatre in Wells\, BC. \nTHE PLAY \nJake’s Gift is a multi-award winning Canadian play about a World War II veteran’s reluctant return to Normandy\, France\, for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. While revisiting the shores of Juno beach\, Jake encounters Isabelle\, a precocious 10-year-old from the local village. Isabelle’s inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to confront some long-ignored ghosts – most notably the war-time death of his eldest brother\, Chester\, a once promising young musician. At its heart\, Jake’s Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and makes personal the story behind one soldier’s grave. \nSince 2007\, Jake’s Gift has gone on to play at festivals and theatres in over 250 communities across Canada\, including International stops to Washington State\, the UK and Normandy\, France\, for the 70th & 73rd Anniversary of D-Day. In June 2019\, the company returned to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. They presented performances in both French and English at the Juno Beach Centre and La Salle de la Mer in Bernières sur Mer as well as other communities and venues in Normandy. \nIn December 2025\, Julia received the Governor General Meritorious Service Cross Award for her work on Jake’s Gift.

The story starts at age nine with an upright bass that was nearly as tall as he was.\nFrom there he moved through jazz groups where he learned to listen harder than he played\, orchestras where discipline met reverence\, folk circles where a song’s only job was to tell the truth\, and rock bands where the truth got turned up to eleven. Each world left its fingerprints. None of them could fully contain him. Years working as a sound and lighting technician taught him how rooms hear\, how light moves bodies before brains can object\, and how to run cable in the dark without swearing too loudly. That hard-won expertise now powers a light show that isn’t bolted onto the performance — it is the performance\, co-conspirator to whatever chaos is unfolding onstage.\nThe instrument list raises eyebrows. Upright bass remains the anchor. Surrounding it: theremin\, harmonica\, guitar\, a homemade stompbox built from actual antler bones (the hardware store options were deemed insufficiently weird)\, and a suitcase that serves as percussion\, luggage\, and occasional conversation piece. It’s not a gimmick. It’s load-bearing infrastructure. Influences include Beck\, Tom Waits\, Ween\, Beefheart\, and Zappa — artists who collectively never once agreed to pick a lane. The songs reflect that lineage. Humor is treated with surgical seriousness. Serious subjects get enough salt to scorch the original flavor. \nThe Brain Porter occupies a singular frequency: strange enough to stop a conversation\, just barely accessible enough to start a new one. He could make Prine chuckle. He could make Primus headbang. Both Saturday-night festival crowds and intimate houseconcert audiences stumble into a musical void they didn’t know they were missing. \nKim MacGregor:\nA reformed bank manager\, Kimberley realized she was doing a successful job of living someone else’s life—and a poor job living her own. In 2013\, she launched her original songs into the world and took centre stage. \nShe has since released three full-length albums\, and was awarded Female Artist of the Year at both the 2015 and 2016 Edmonton Music Awards. The author of a novel\, The Causes (Pedlar Press\, 2019)\, a collection of short fiction\, Something About the Animal (Biblioasis\, 2011) and two previous collections of poetry—Grace Shiver (Inanna Publications\, 2011) and The Words I Know (Press Gang\, 1994)\, Stonehouse also co-edited the ground-breaking anthology Double Lives: Writing and Motherhood (McGill-Queen’s University Press\, 2008)\, is a previous editor of EVENT magazine\, and currently teaches creative writing and interdisciplinary expressive arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.\nTheir most recent book\, Dream House (Nightwood Editions)\, a long poem\, is short listed for the 2024 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize.

DESCRIPTION:Sign up today to bring your family and friends to Jam Camp in the Mountains in beautiful Wells. Create music with us in the alpine meadows of our small community! Stay in your tent or RV\, or choose from many lodging options in Wells and Barkerville. \nCamp activities will be in the Wells School and outside during good weather. You can join us no matter your age or musical ability – beginner and experienced musicians are all welcome. There will be many workshop and lesson choices for you to enjoy. \nThis year\, Jam Camp in the Mountains is partnering with Island Mountain Arts\, an organization with almost 50 years of history. They are leaders in the arts community in BC who host the ArtsWells Festival\, arts workshops\, artist residencies\, and a public gallery\, and partner with organizations like the Jam Camp Society. Learn more about Island Mountain Arts here. \nJam Camp in the Mountains is \n1 hour from Quesnel\, \n2 hours from Prince George\, and \n10 minutes from Barkerville Historic Site. \nDates\nJam Camp will begin on Sunday\, July 26. Campers are invited to arrive in Wells late morning or early afternoon and be set up by 5 pm. Our first official camp activity is the Welcome Potluck that evening. \nOur final performance takes place on the evening of Thursday\, July 30\, and Jam Camp ends on Friday\, July 31. Friday is a free day for packing up camp\, saying goodbyes\, and taking your last stroll in the area before you go. \nThe full schedule of the week’s events will be sent out closer to the date\, and will be similarly structured to those of past camps. Morning activities will start around 9am. Activities include full group workshops\, small group lessons\, and songwriting/musical project groups. Days include a lunch & leisure break\, a dinner & leisure break\, and evening activities wrapping up around 9pm. \nRegistration Fees\nAll folks participating in Jam Camp aged 4 and up will pay a sliding scale registration fee of $200 to $500 CAD per person. \nJam Camp fees cover 4.5 days of workshops\, activities\, and instruction. \nFees do not cover food or accommodation. Groups must make their own arrangements for accommodation (see Accommodation section below) and are responsible for their own meals. Campers can make their own food or visit local restaurants. \nThe sliding scale allows campers to choose the payment that suits their family or group best. If you are able to pay more than the base fee per person\, that will help keep camp affordable for everyone. \nNotes: \nE-transfer is the simplest way to pay for your registration. \nIf you pay via PayPal\, PayPal will charge a fee of approximately 3% of your total registration & camping fees. \nYou may also choose to help subsidize registration for a low-income attendee\, or to support the non-profit Jam Camp Society.

It’s a raw\, honest\, and often wry journey through the psyche\, the politics\, and the pressures of a time that had little room for difference. Playwright and Performer\, Dennis Hawkins-Bogle shares\, “As a gay kid growing up in an era of silence and shame\, my voice was misrepresented\, undermined\, even sensationalized by the dominant culture. Now\, I’m setting the story straight — through moments of resilience\, humour\, heartbreak\, and hope. This is a story about choosing authenticity over fear\, joy over judgment\, and community over isolation. It’s not just about coming out.
