SUMMARY:Gallery Opening: Face-To-Face
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Opening tomorrow May 26th @ 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm \nTwo deeply distinct series of portraits that demand a double-take. Troy Lindstrom and Samantha Wigglesworth’s joint exhibition opens at 7:00 PM – have some snacks and beverages with us\, and hear a bit from the two artists. \nIn Face-to-face\, the work of Northern BC Artists Troy Lindstrom and Samantha Wigglesworth are exhibited together\, exploring the fine lines of first impressions and preconceived notions. \nAnyone can walk through this show and assume each person’s gender and sexuality based on the representation of the portraits. The question is\, would you be right in your assumptions and the labels you assign to them? How would you know? \nID: From left to right:\nTroy Lindstrom\, #NotSoulless\, Digital illustration\, 2021\nSamantha Wigglesworth\, AMBIGUOUS\, Acrylic on canvas with 3D elements\, 24 x 36 in\, 2021\nFace-To-Face\nTroy Lindstrom\nSamantha Wigglesworth

SUMMARY:filling in the cracks: a somatic creation workshop with amanda preston
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop you will move through a method of creating art in a consciously somatic way.\nA space to place some of your thoughts.\nA drop off for the itchy bits left in the back of your mind\, waiting to come out.\nThis art practice is rooted in connecting the loose thoughts floating around in your mind’s view while taking pressure away from creating with a destination in mind.\nThis workshop is pay-what-you-can and all ages are welcome. We will have paper and writing implements\, but if you have a sketchbook you like to use\, it would be most welcome!

SUMMARY:no art to see here: Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 20th\, 2023 – Sunday May 21st\, 2023\nExhibition Opening: April 20th at 7:00 PM \nGallery Hours: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM\nThursday – Sunday\, or by appointment \n“Art fills the cracks of meaning that tangible things leave behind.”\nAs a child\, Amanda Preston’s sketchbook went everywhere with her. Where words weren’t appropriate\, art was. Conversations between the adults around her became colours\, and her means of connection were often her drawings: her way of quietly saying “I see you.”\nWhere colour palate bonds her work together\, the pieces explore disconnect to others and to self\, as well as the expectations of being: Being alive\, being oneself\, being surrounded by one another\, being alone in a world that is both kind and unkind. \nThough words convey a lot of meaning\, language is limited and meaning is steadily diminished through ambitionless buzz-words that can’t always articulate one’s feelings. As one might reach for metaphors and similes to be the grout that secures honest feeling\, Preston reaches for art to fill to secure those same misplaced pieces\, providing a connection to those leftover bits of emotion that too often go unspoken. \nThe title of the show\, “no art to see here” can be read as a nod to Lady Macbeth’s “there’s no art to find the mind’s construction in the face.” In other words\, no one can determine what another is thinking by looking at their appearance or the expression on such a person’s face.\nIn a very similar way\, you can be told to receive or not to receive art in a specific\, curated process but true connection or understanding will filter through our own individual perception. No one person can predetermine another’s connection or lack thereof.

SUMMARY:Joseph Shea live at the Wells Hotel
DESCRIPTION:Joseph Shea is a multi-instrumental singer and writer of songs. As a member of the Prince George collective The Ebbs (https://theebbs.bandcamp.com) and the Alberta/BC collaboration Trundled (https://trundledmusic.bandcamp.com)\, he’s played music from coast to coast\, and from cave bottoms to mountain tops. \nWith songs grounded in traditional Irish/Americana structures\, Joseph works in themes of love\, loss\, and life. As a solo performer with just a guitar and a piano\, his sound is a product of simply being a bit of a shoe-gazing Canadian kid in the 90s (think Wilco\, Radiohead\, Jeff Buckley\, Josh Ritter\, and Brandi Carlile)

We will announce the next Festival dates soon.\n\n\nOur goals are to present a Festival that includes the best parts of ArtsWells and eliminates\, to the best of our ability\, the elements that strained our community.\n\n\n· We hope you will read the Community Feedback Survey Results Summary: https://drive.google.com/…/1hRvjxi6YBnnd1lH1WVDTG…/view\n· IMA Board and Committees will continue to develop the Festival and other plans\, seek funding\, and collaborate with our partners for the future.\n· We encourage our neighbours to join us for a Community Meeting on February 8th at 7:00 PM in the Island Mountain Arts Public Gallery (2323 Pooley St.) where we will present our roadmap for the 2023 season and beyond. We look forward to hosting this conversation. (we unfortunately do not have the infrastructure to host this meeting in-person and online at this time.)\n\n\nIf you’re interested in volunteering with us to bring a future Festival or other programming to life\, please consider joining us on February 8th or contact volunteer@imarts.com for more details.\n\n\nBackground:\n\n\nFor many years\, Island Mountain Arts ran a summer festival in Wells called ArtsWells Festival Of All Things Art. Artists\, musicians\, and attendees came from near and far to celebrate what Wells had to offer.\n\n\nThe festival has not happened in person since the beginning of the covid pandemic. In its final years\, it had successfully grown so large that it began to put serious strain on the broader community and its infrastructure.
