DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the region’s Indigenous culture and history! \nSaturday\, August 16th\, 2025\n10AM – 4PM\nArtists’ Market in the Welcome Centre\nIncluding free Bannock!\nSpecial Event Programming\nat Mitlite Iskum #188\nIndigenous Peoples’ Celebration\nMorning Drum Circle\n9:30am \nJoin us for a traditional Indigenous drum circle at Mitlite Iskum to start the day and honour the Original Peoples of this land. 15 minutes. \nIndigenous Peoples’ Celebration\nPARADE\n11:20am \nThe parade begins at the Chinatown Arch and finishes at Mitlite Iskum \nWelcome Ceremony\n11:30am \nJoin us at Mitlite Iskum as we welcome our guests to the Indigenous Peoples’ Celebration. \nDrumming\, Dancing\, & Stories\n11:45pm \nThe celebration kicks off with ceremonial dances and drumming from across British Columbia\, along with stories shared by the region’s Elders. \nIndigenous Peoples’ Celebration\nBear Dancers\n3:15pm \nThe St’át’imc Bear Dancers provide an unforgettable performance and cultural experience that is not to be missed. \nIndigenous Peoples’ Celebration\nGames\n4:00pm \nThe traditional Lahal game dates back countless generations and is a fun activity for all ages. \nClosing Drum Circle\n5:15pm \nThe final drum circle of the day will close out the day’s celebrations.

Come and learn about the spoken Chinese language\, Chinese calligraphy and how to do math on an abacus. \nOPENING CEREMONY\n11:30am\n30 minutes \nJoin us at the Chinatown Arch as we open the 2025 Mid-Autumn Moon Festival! \nCHINATOWN TOUR\n12:00pm\n60 minutes \nExplore one of Canada’s oldest Chinatowns. Find out more about the life of Chinese miners and merchants in Barkerville\, and how their culture was maintained and adapted to the rugged land of the Cariboo. To join in on the tour\, meet in front of the Lung Duck Tong restaurant. \nCHINATOWN TRIVIA\n1:15pm\n50 minutes \nTest your knowledge gained from the Chinatown tour in this exciting trivia contest! \nCHINESE GAMES\n3:00pm\n90 minutes \nParticipate in an array of games that challenge contenders of all ages! \nWhite Pigeon Lottery\n4:30pm\n30 minutes \nLottery tickets will be distributed throughout the day. Join us at the Barker Co. Shafthouse to pull the winning tickets! \nLION & DRAGON DANCES\n7:00pm\n30 minutes \nDon’t miss these exquisite and colourful dances! \nEVENING PERFORMANCES\n8:00pm\n60 minutes \nJoin us at the Theatre Royal for an hour of entertainment that will immerse you in Chinese music and dance. \nLANTERN PARADE\n9:15pm\n60 minutes \nThe evening finishes with a colourful parade starting at the Chinatown arch and ending at the bottom of town.
