SUMMARY:Community Meeting on the Future of the ArtsWells Festival
DESCRIPTION:We know that many of you are waiting to hear whether or not Island Mountain Arts (IMA) will bring ArtsWells back in the summer of 2023.Based on the results of the 2022 Community Feedback Survey and the IMA Board’s goals and vision\, we are planning a smaller version of the Festival\, to be presented in 2023 or 2024. We will announce the next Festival dates soon.\n\n\nOur goals are to present a Festival that includes the best parts of ArtsWells and eliminates\, to the best of our ability\, the elements that strained our community.\n\n\n· We hope you will read the Community Feedback Survey Results Summary: https://drive.google.com/…/1hRvjxi6YBnnd1lH1WVDTG…/view\n· IMA Board and Committees will continue to develop the Festival and other plans\, seek funding\, and collaborate with our partners for the future.\n· We encourage our neighbours to join us for a Community Meeting on February 8th at 7:00 PM in the Island Mountain Arts Public Gallery (2323 Pooley St.) where we will present our roadmap for the 2023 season and beyond. We look forward to hosting this conversation. (we unfortunately do not have the infrastructure to host this meeting in-person and online at this time.)\n\n\nIf you’re interested in volunteering with us to bring a future Festival or other programming to life\, please consider joining us on February 8th or contact volunteer@imarts.com for more details.\n\n\nBackground:\n\n\nFor many years\, Island Mountain Arts ran a summer festival in Wells called ArtsWells Festival Of All Things Art. Artists\, musicians\, and attendees came from near and far to celebrate what Wells had to offer.\n\n\nThe festival has not happened in person since the beginning of the covid pandemic. In its final years\, it had successfully grown so large that it began to put serious strain on the broader community and its infrastructure.

SUMMARY:Evening Bat Excursion
DESCRIPTION:From Superhero origins to bloodsucking shapeshifters and attic nuisances\, bats can be regarded in many different lights. In this workshop come learn why bats are truly spectacular and often misunderstood creatures. Bat researcher Brett Gandy will take us on an evening bat exploration to see and listen to the bats who make the forest their home. Come discover why Brett is so passionate about bats and gain a new appreciation for the little flying mammals. If you feel 11:30 is super late to end\, no worries\, you can come for a short while or stick it out to the very end .\n\nBrett is an incoming Master’s student at UNBC in their Natural Resource and Environmental Science Program\, to be supervised by Dr. Erin Baerwald. His research has aimed to better understand how bats use and select their habitat\, and how this can relate to selecting sites for both further research and conservation of our bat species. Brett is currently working in the Wells-Barkerville Community Forest this summer on an acoustic monitoring project that aims to determine which species of bats call Wells home\, as well as gaining insight into how these bats are using the different habitats that the community forest has to offer.\n\nThis workshop is PWYC. She created SharGloMa Soapworks when she realized her “hobby” had turned into an obsession and she had more soap than she could use in a lifetime.\nSharGloMa is originally from Victoria\, BC – but Gloria and her husband Randy realized that the Cariboo was the best place in Canada and they relocated to south Quesnel in September 2021. They have been making soap for the Quesnel Farmers Market and Edgewood Farms (their first wholesale outlet) and enjoying everything the Cariboo has to offer.\n\nSoapmaking is an art that has been bringing people together for centuries. Similar to quilting bees\, pioneers had soapmaking days where many people would get together to make soap for the community. She also loves researching beneficial plants that can be used in soapmaking and is looking forward to learning more about the foraging opportunities in the Cariboo.\n\nThis workshop costs $30.00 which covers the materials used.\nReserve your spot here (you can only book one space at a time):\nhttps://islandmountainarts.as.me/soap-making-101
