DESCRIPTION:The Brain Porter:\nStrapped with an upright bass\, a 40-gallon suitcase on one foot\, a pile of antler bones on the other\, and enough FX pedals to kill a bear\, The Brain Porter conjures a sound that baffles anyone devoted to “tradition” — and frankly\, a few people who aren’t. The story starts at age nine with an upright bass that was nearly as tall as he was.\nFrom there he moved through jazz groups where he learned to listen harder than he played\, orchestras where discipline met reverence\, folk circles where a song’s only job was to tell the truth\, and rock bands where the truth got turned up to eleven. Each world left its fingerprints. None of them could fully contain him. Years working as a sound and lighting technician taught him how rooms hear\, how light moves bodies before brains can object\, and how to run cable in the dark without swearing too loudly. That hard-won expertise now powers a light show that isn’t bolted onto the performance — it is the performance\, co-conspirator to whatever chaos is unfolding onstage.\nThe instrument list raises eyebrows. Upright bass remains the anchor. Surrounding it: theremin\, harmonica\, guitar\, a homemade stompbox built from actual antler bones (the hardware store options were deemed insufficiently weird)\, and a suitcase that serves as percussion\, luggage\, and occasional conversation piece. It’s not a gimmick. It’s load-bearing infrastructure. Influences include Beck\, Tom Waits\, Ween\, Beefheart\, and Zappa — artists who collectively never once agreed to pick a lane. The songs reflect that lineage. Humor is treated with surgical seriousness. Serious subjects get enough salt to scorch the original flavor. \nThe Brain Porter occupies a singular frequency: strange enough to stop a conversation\, just barely accessible enough to start a new one. He could make Prine chuckle. He could make Primus headbang. Both Saturday-night festival crowds and intimate houseconcert audiences stumble into a musical void they didn’t know they were missing. \nKim MacGregor:\nA reformed bank manager\, Kimberley realized she was doing a successful job of living someone else’s life—and a poor job living her own. In 2013\, she launched her original songs into the world and took centre stage. \nShe has since released three full-length albums\, and was awarded Female Artist of the Year at both the 2015 and 2016 Edmonton Music Awards. In 2022\, she relocated to Vancouver Island\, residing in Qualicum Beach. \nShe lovingly crafts and passionately performs songs that will move your heart\, change your mind and stomp your feet. Weaving seamlessly between blues\, folk and rock\, her common threads are strength\, vulnerability and badassery\, always sizzling with soul.

DESCRIPTION:Sign up today to bring your family and friends to Jam Camp in the Mountains in beautiful Wells. Create music with us in the alpine meadows of our small community! Stay in your tent or RV\, or choose from many lodging options in Wells and Barkerville. \nCamp activities will be in the Wells School and outside during good weather. You can join us no matter your age or musical ability – beginner and experienced musicians are all welcome. There will be many workshop and lesson choices for you to enjoy. \nThis year\, Jam Camp in the Mountains is partnering with Island Mountain Arts\, an organization with almost 50 years of history. They are leaders in the arts community in BC who host the ArtsWells Festival\, arts workshops\, artist residencies\, and a public gallery\, and partner with organizations like the Jam Camp Society. Learn more about Island Mountain Arts here. \nJam Camp in the Mountains is \n1 hour from Quesnel\, \n2 hours from Prince George\, and \n10 minutes from Barkerville Historic Site. \nDates\nJam Camp will begin on Sunday\, July 26. Campers are invited to arrive in Wells late morning or early afternoon and be set up by 5 pm. Our first official camp activity is the Welcome Potluck that evening. \nOur final performance takes place on the evening of Thursday\, July 30\, and Jam Camp ends on Friday\, July 31. Friday is a free day for packing up camp\, saying goodbyes\, and taking your last stroll in the area before you go. \nThe full schedule of the week’s events will be sent out closer to the date\, and will be similarly structured to those of past camps. Morning activities will start around 9am. Activities include full group workshops\, small group lessons\, and songwriting/musical project groups. Days include a lunch & leisure break\, a dinner & leisure break\, and evening activities wrapping up around 9pm. \nRegistration Fees\nAll folks participating in Jam Camp aged 4 and up will pay a sliding scale registration fee of $200 to $500 CAD per person. \nJam Camp fees cover 4.5 days of workshops\, activities\, and instruction. \nFees do not cover food or accommodation. Groups must make their own arrangements for accommodation (see Accommodation section below) and are responsible for their own meals. Campers can make their own food or visit local restaurants. \nThe sliding scale allows campers to choose the payment that suits their family or group best. If you are able to pay more than the base fee per person\, that will help keep camp affordable for everyone. \nNotes: \nE-transfer is the simplest way to pay for your registration. \nIf you pay via PayPal\, PayPal will charge a fee of approximately 3% of your total registration & camping fees. \nYou may also choose to help subsidize registration for a low-income attendee\, or to support the non-profit Jam Camp Society.

A heartfelt passion project that began as a nudge after Keith Alessi’s life took a major turn\, it has been his mission to raise money for causes close to his heart. Through donations\, including 100% of all artist fees\, the show has raised over $1.3 Million Dollars (CAD) as of March 2026 for various charities including cancer organizations\, music programs\, community groups and artist funding and development. \nThe show has sold out runs across Canada\, Off-Broadway in New York City\, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland 3 years in a row. It has toured internationally including Canada\, the US\, England\, Scotland and Australia. \nKeith shares his exceptional true story of leaving the world of corporate board rooms behind to follow his long-delayed passion—playing the banjo! When faced with a deadly cancer battle\, his musical pursuit took him on a journey that became the key to saving his life. DESCRIPTION:Rae Spoon is a musician\, producer\, and author. They have released thirteen solo albums spanning folk\, country\, indie rock\, and electronic genres and published three books (Arsenal Pulp Press). Rae has been nominated for two Polaris Prizes\, a Lambda Literary Award\, and a Western Canadian Music Award. They have toured internationally (Canada\, Europe\, the USA\, Australia\, China\, Japan\, Korea). \nRae is a non-binary\, trans artist who lives with multiple disabilities. Their newest album\, Assigned Country Singer At Birth (2026)\, marks their return to country music. The album is equally subversive and relatable\, a testament to the fact that country music is as expansive as the people who are connected to it. Songs about trans folks\, harm reduction\, Disability\, inclusion\, religious trauma\, solidarity and opposing colonial land occupation may seem antithetical to traditional country\, but they are as much a part of Spoon’s experiences as love songs\, trucks and beer.
