SUMMARY:Kids' Nature Camp: Forest Languages
DESCRIPTION:This program is a recognition of the immense benefits of being outside\, playing\, creativity\, and a healthy dose of curiosity. We aim to help children explore in a supportive and safe environment to build confidence of their own capability. Throughout the summer we will focus on play and free exploration as a tool to learn\, grow curiousity\, and develop a sense of wonder for the amazing world that is around us. \nAges 6-13 with flexibility \nTimes: Tuesday 9:00-12:00 pm and Thursday 9:00-2:30 pm \nDates: July 6th-August 26th Tuesdays and Thursdays \nProgram Facilitators: Devon Macdonald and Annie Rutherford \nCost: No cost to participants * \n* This is the first year that we have offered a program like this and we are excited about the opportunities it presents for future programming. We are offering the nature camp at no cost for participants because we recognize the learning and growth that comes in the first year. To allow this program to continue into the future we do plan on having a cost associated in future years to keep it sustainable. Thank you for joining us on our foray into the woods we welcome any feedback or comments you may have to help us to continue to grow and learn. \nClick here if you are ready to register or call us at 250-994-3466. \nCOVID 19 POLICY\nThis program will run in accordance with the directives provided by the BC Provincial Health Office to ensure the safety of any children and staff involved and the broader community. Please read over our Health and Safety Site Plan before registering your child to ensure that you are comfortable with the measures we have in place and to give us time to respond to concerns. We will continue to review and update this document as the summer progresses and new information becomes available. \nIMA COVID Health & Safety Site Plan: Focus Youth Programs \nIf you have any questions or concerns please contact Elyssia Sasaki (elyssia@imarts.com). \nWEEKLY THEMES & GUEST ARTISTS\nEach week will introduce a new theme which will serve as a jumping off point for our explorations. While we intend to follow these themes we also recognize that there are unforseen circumstances and so all of these themes have a built in flexibility to allow for discovery wherever that takes us. The themes will help to guide our play for each week and in a gentle way allow us to think about new concepts while having fun. \nArtists will be announced soon! If you are interested in being one of our guest artists please contact Annie at annie@imarts.com. We would love to hear from you! \nJuly 6 & 8 – A Place To Call Home \nThis week we will explore habitats and what makes a place home. Our play for this week will focus on building a habitat for ourselves within the forest and finding out who our neighbours are. This weeks art will explore the concept of home and the many ways that a home and habitat are created. \nJuly 13 & 15 – Signs of Life \nWhat clues do different life forms leave behind? This theme examines the trails that are left behind and how we can learn to read these clues and trails like a book to learn who was there. This theme will challenge us to understand different lived experience while making us think about the imprints we leave behind. \nJuly 20 & 22 – Navigating the woods \nHow do we find our way when we are lost? To begin to answer this question we will build our awareness of the spaces around us. Through games and activities we will cultivate an understanding of the places around us build our capacity for understanding our landscape. \nJuly 27 & 29 – Leafy friends \nDid you know that you could make a shirt out of nettles? That willow can help you deal with pain and that you can eat dandelions whole? While we wont necessarily do all these things this week we will explore the amazing world of plants. \nAug 3 & 5 – Creating with the forest \nThis week’s theme is about discovering the exciting process of decay and renewal. What happens to the trees that fall on the ground? What happens to an apple if you bury it in the ground? We will try to answer some of these questions in this week but also look at how decay provides space for creativity and renewal in the forest. We will play games and test our creativity in finding ways to design and make with the forest. \nAug 10 & 12  Forest Languages \nWhen you walk through the forest can you hear the trees talking? The answer is likely no and that is because trees don’t communicate in the same way we do but that doesn’t mean that they don’t talk with one another. This theme will explore communication in the forest. We will try to decode bird language\, marvel at the wonderous world of mycelium and play with these concepts. \nAug 17 & 19 – The Five Senses \nThis week will focus on training our senses so we can be alert and more aware of what is happening. Our training will include sensory walks and games to get a better understanding of our own senses and the ones we may not use very often. To help us understand the senses and their importance in the forest we will look at how different animals use their senses and how it is important for survival but also to thrive within any environment. \nAug 24 & 26 – Finding Community \nAs our last week we will identify what it means to be part of a community and the importance of giving back. We will celebrate the community that we have created and think about ways that we can continue to make community in our lives. \nWHAT TO BRING\nWe will be outside rain or shine. The key to having a good time in any weather is preparation. We request that every child come prepared for the day ahead. This list is a guide to what one might bring depending on the conditions outside. If there is anything on here that you do not have please contact us and we will do our best to arrange something. We want to ensure that your child/ren’s experience is positive even on those wet cold days. \nClothing \nOn Days Without Rain \n\nA long sleeve shirt (it will be buggy)\nLong pants\nA sweater (if it is looking to be a bit chilly)\nA raincoat\nShoes that are comfortable and will handle clambering over sticks\nA hat\n\nOn Days With Rain \n\nA raincoat and rain pants\nRainboots\nA fleece or wool sweater\n\nOther Gear \n\nA backpack\nWater bottle (please fill it before you arrive)\nSunscreen\nAn extra pair of clothes can be a good idea especially for younger children\nSnacks\n\nWe will have bug nets to go over hats as well as extra water \nSAFETY\nEnsuring the safety of all participants is very important to us. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL Island Mountain Harp and Cello School
DESCRIPTION:Now in its 35th year\, the Island Mountain Harp and Cello school brings World-class instructors together with students of all abilities for 5 days. Days are comprised of morning lessons\, afternoon special interest sessions and evening performances\, with time for coffee and catch-up throughout! We hope you’ll join us! \n\n\nMORNING INSTRUCTION | NOVICE / INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED HARP; CELLO (ALL LEVELS)\n\n\n\n\nMaximum class size of 12.\nNOVICE HARP WITH SHOSHANNA GODBER\nPractice Strategies – making the most out of your practice time is a skill that needs to be learned alongside any instrument. Shoshanna will share her favourite strategies for learning and getting ready to perform your pieces. \nTechnique – we’ll work on developing a relaxed technique in order play pain-free and with the best tone possible. \nCreativity – with the right tools improvisation turns from being scary to opening up a whole new way to fall in love with the harp. Shoshanna will share her improvisation toolbox to help you make your own music no matter your reading or playing level. \n\n“The novice class will consist of three main topics. Every day we will spend time warming up and working on developing proper technique. I will go over fundamentals such as how to sit at the harp to avoid injury\, developing a relaxed hand position\, best placement of fingers on the strings and proper follow through into the palm. After the warm-up/technique time we will work on learning repertoire. The amount of pieces will be determined by the participants’ playing level. Through these pieces we will work on practice strategies such as analyzing the piece for patterns\, placing all fingers in a bracket\, dividing the piece into easily learned chunks (even if that is only one bar at a time) and how to coordinate playing hands together. Towards the end of the week we will switch from practicing to learn a piece to strategies to prepare to perform a piece. I will provide recordings of the pieces to aid students in learning the pieces regardless of their note reading ability. Lastly\, I will introduce improvisation strategies to help students develop the ability to work creatively on the harp. Strategies will include descending bass lines\, pentatonic tuning and a simple repeated chord progression. I will provide students with backing tracks so that they can continue to work on these strategies on their own.” – Shoshanna Godber \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nINTERMEDIATE HARP WITH SHARLENE WALLACE\nInspiration. Fluidity. Repertoire. Technique. Beauty. Fun. \nThe Intermediate level harp class will encompass how to play and what to play as well as how to practice! The class will learn new tunes\, left-hand accompaniments\, exercises and arranging ideas while incorporating relaxation\, technical ease\, pattern recognition\, beauty tone\, expressive playing\, improvisation and… other virtually mountainous inspirations! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nADVANCE HARP WITH TRISTAN LE GOVIC\nIn 1971\, the Breton harper Alan Stivell released history most famous album “Renaissance of the Celtic Harp”. This album had a fantastic echo within the Celtic world and for the development of the Celtic harp. \nCelebrating this 50th anniversary\, Tristan will teach some of the tunes of this ground-breaking album in this workshop and talk a bit about the harp in Brittany that led to the album. This will be a great opportunity to understand the variety of styles from the Celtic countries\, from Brittany\, Ireland\, Scotland\, Wales or Manx. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCELLO WITH MORAG NORTHEY\n\n“I look forward to working with every beautiful cellist that walks through my online and my studio door!”  <3 Morag \n\nThis workshop will be tailored to the participant’s level of achievement. Beginners to experienced are welcome. \nEach session will begin with warm-ups to unlock and balance the body\, free vibrations\, and provide ease\, accuracy and direction. Cellists will dive into technique\, studies and pieces. \nMorag offers a very rewarding and memorable approach to furthering your love of the cello. \nA teacher for 40 years\, Northey adheres to the technical demands of classical music while inspiring cellist of all ages and stages from rudimentary skills to successful entrance in the profession. She has trained in the Suzuki and Kodály methods\, taught at the Calgary Suzuki Talent Education Society\, consistently leads group and ensemble classes for early childhood\, teen and adult levels\, and creates and runs a series of unique\, multi-age\, multi-level\, all-encompassing intensive string summer cello camps from her home and with the Island Mountain Arts! \nAfternoon Special Interest Class\nEvery afternoon\, we’ll gather together for a special interest class\, led by one of our brilliant instructors (and some very special guests! ) Dates TBD!\nARRANGING WITH SHOSHANNA GODBER\nHave you ever given up learning a song because you couldn’t find an appropriate arrangement? In this workshop\, Shoshanna will give you the tools to make sure that never has to happen to you again regardless of your playing ability! She’ll share music theory essentials which makes creating your own arrangements easier to tackle\, ideas for left accompaniment\, and how to develop introductions and outros. \nTHE HARMONIC SERIES AS THE MASTER TEACHER WITH MORAG NORTHEY\nExplore one of the great universal laws in a Masterclass with Morag Northey. Connect\, recharge and refocus while discovering ways to advance your playing through harmonics\, energy flow and sound waves. \nMISTRESSCLASS WITH SHARLENE WALLACE\nLimited participants / unlimited auditors! \nPlay one of your pieces or compositions or an exercise for Sharlene and receive encouraging and helpful thoughts… or just bring a question! \n\n“The idea of a mistressclass (masterclass) is for a student to play a piece a scale or even to present a question… and I respond. Like in a private lesson. Everyone else is an auditor to listen to the suggestions in a relaxed way because they are not on the hot seat!” \n\nThis format is a way to have an opportunity to get feedback (from Sharlene) about pieces or exercises or compositions that you are working on… for musical ideas\, or ways to make something easier\, or just to check in to see if what you are doing is working… or whatever you want to ask Shar about!!! \nEvening Concerts\nMORAG NORTHEY\nAs part of IMA’s Virtual Harp & Cello School\, Morag with Pianist Mary Buckley\, will perform an evening of works from David Popper’s ‘Im Walde’ Suite’ Op. 50. The suite reflects what it means to enter\, encounter\, revere and return home from the forest. She will play the ‘Adagio with Variations’ by Ottorino Respighi and will present her ‘Homage for Mother Earth.’ \nSHOSHANNA GODBER\nSHARLENE WALLACE\nTRISTAN LE GOVIC

Both facilitators have First Aid training and will carry a first aid kit at all times. We will also ensure that facilitators are provided with a radio for fast communication as wells as bear spray. \nDue to COVID-19 we recognize that safety has taken on different dimensions please see our 2021 06 19 IMA COVID Health & Safety Site Plan for more information on how we are taking this into consideration. \nREGISTER\nIf you have any questions or concerns regarding registration please contact us at info@imarts.com or call our phone number.\nThank you and we look forward to seeing you soon!

SUMMARY:Kids' Nature Camp: Finding Community
SUMMARY:The Ebbs • Live Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Ebbs will take the Sunset stage on Saturday\, November 20 @ 8PM. Join us for what will be a fabulous evening of live music and song. \nThe Ebbs \nThe Ebbs are an indie folk band based in Prince George\, British Columbia\, Canada. Singer-songwriters William Kuklis and Joe Shea\, have joined forces with fiddle virtuoso Finn Scott-Neff to push their original songs into uncharted territories. The trio brings years of experience creating and performing music to the stage\, and combine a range of instruments and vocal harmonies to create a new and inescapable sound in the Canadian music scene. \n\nWilliam Kuklis \nCanadian singer-songwriter and actor William Kuklis has been commanding stages with his powerhouse vocals\, emotion and charisma for over 20 years.  Musically\, Kuklis takes his inspiration from a wide array of genres and has been compared to artists such as Matt Andersen\, Van Morrison\, Steven Page\, and John Popper. Williams’s music has been featured on international radio\, film and television and he has performed live throughout Canada and internationally including a show at the Hard Rock Café in Reykjavik\, Iceland. He has shared stages with such artists as Alicia Witt\, Craig Cardiff\, David Ross Macdonald\, The Be Good Tanyas\, and John Bottomely. As an actor\, William has been seen on stage\, television and film\, and most recently played his first LEGO character as the voice of Dennis Nedry in LEGO Jurassic World – The Legend of Isla Nublar which continues to air internationally. \nwww.williamkuklis.com \n\nFinn Scott-Neff  \nHailing from the north coast of California\, Finn Scott-Neff got his start playing with the Humboldt Music Academy fiddlers and has played fiddle and classical throughout his childhood. Finn transitioned to a broader range of genres in high school\, and has played in bands such as Klez Encounters\, Feedback\, Destination Moon\, and Mom is the New Dad. Finn Scott-Neff employs his passion for music and personal growth to his daily life and as guest performer with a multitude of other acts\, and is stoked to be playing in The Ebbs. \n\nJoe Shea \nBorn in Ontario but driven west against the prevailing winds\, singer-songwriter Joe Shea builds songs around historical\, fictional\, and personal experiences and places. He plays a range of instruments (acoustic and electric guitars\, mandolin\, and keyboards) over a broad canvas of musical influences that include Radiohead\, Wilco\, and the Lumineers. With the musical duo Trundled\, Joe has recently performed at the Canmore Folk Fest\, the Coldsnap Music Festival\, and fourteen stories underground at the bottom of a cave for the Spirit in the Mountain concert series. And he once covered “Common People” by Pulp for the British Ambassador to Nepal. \nwww.josephsheamusic.ca \nwww.trundledmusic.com \nSOCIAL MEDIA LINKS: \nThe Ebbs | Facebook \nThe Ebbs – YouTube \nVideos: \nFacebook – After Nine \nFacebook – Live at Coldsnap \n Masks required • As per public health orders\, patrons must show proof of vaccination for entry
