SUMMARY:Film: The Princess Bride
DESCRIPTION:“As you wish.” \n“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya.\nYou killed my father; prepare to die!” \n“Inconceivable!” \nRotten Tomatoes Consensus: “A delightfully postmodern fairy tale\, The Princess Bride is a deft\, intelligent mix of swashbuckling\, romance\, and comedy that takes an age-old damsel-in-distress story and makes it fresh.” \nFun Fact 1: Wallace Shawn\, who plays Vizzini in the film\, also voices Rex for the Toy Story movies. A playwright and multi Obie Award-winner\, Shawn is also known for writing and starring in My Dinner with Andre. \nFun Fact 2: As a child\, Andre the Giant (not the same Andre from Dinner With™) used to receive rides to elementary school in his native France from existential playwright Samuel Beckett. \n[Thanks\, Wikipedia:] The Princess Bride is a 1987 American fantasy adventure comedy film directed and co-produced by Rob Reiner\, starring Cary Elwes\, Robin Wright\, Mandy Patinkin\, Chris Sarandon\, Wallace Shawn\, André the Giant\, and Christopher Guest. Adapted by William Goldman from his 1973 novel The Princess Bride\, it tells the story of a farmhand named Westley\, accompanied by companions befriended along the way\, who must rescue his true love Princess Buttercup from the odious Prince Humperdinck. \nRated PG • Running Time is 1 hour & 38 minutes \nTICKETS \nAdult: $8\nChildren 12 & under: $5 \nAll tickets payable at door. We accept credit/debit cards with tap feature for payments via Square.

SUMMARY:The Sunset Cabaret - NYE Edition
DESCRIPTION:The Sunset Cabaret is a long-standing tradition at the Sunset Theatre\, inspired by the coffee houses of the 1960s and the popular Theatrical Happenings of the 1970s.  IMA used to host periodical Coffee Houses\, inviting anyone and everyone to participate in an evening of sharing creative stories\, songs\, poetry\, dance\, film\, whatever was your fancy.  Since re-opening its doors in 2006\, there have been 44 Sunset Cabarets\, hosting 100s of artists from Wells\, Barkerville or just driving through town. The baton has been passed to Stu Cawood and James Douglas who give of their time to carry on this tradition\, bringing together the community in laughter and song. \nAll ages are welcome\, however extreme\, over-the-top\, risque content is typical. Course language and adult themes are often featured. \nDoors open @ 7:30PM • Show starts at 8PM \nNB • Adult content

SUMMARY:Play Reading: Churchill’s Women
DESCRIPTION:Gordon Roberts with Julia Mackey • Workshop 16 to 22 September 2019 • Reading 22 Sept\, 8PM \n\n\n\n\nOur aim is to create a 90-minute two person play about the women behind Winston Churchill. He is debatably the most written about person in the English language\, much of it written by himself. But amongst all this verbiage there is one voice missing – the Women.

SUMMARY:The Gift
DESCRIPTION:“My name is John Aitken; I did not speak until I was eighteen” \nTruth and healing in Canada’s First Nations are vast and vital topics explored through a highly personal lens in Coast Salish artist John Aitken’s “the Gift”. \n“I am the product of childhood trauma and abuse. I survived by being as invisible as I could and not speaking until I was eighteen years old. I struggled throughout my childhood as a “dirty little indian” in a rural white community”\, says the Mayne Island artist. \nJohn Aitken tells his story of survival\, personal resilience and reconciliation as he lived his childhood\, nonverbally\, through the performance of “the Gift”\, utilizing dance/movement\, physical acting\, vocalization\, drumming and singing. Sharing the stage with Aitken is acclaimed actor/director and filmmaker\, Shelley MacDonald of North Vancouver. \nJohn Aitken and award winning animation filmmaker\, Gail Noonan\, developed this performance art piece over three years on Mayne Island. Aitken and MacDonald weave the story using a series of dream-like events drawing on First Nations and European Iconography and archetypes. The story takes the audience through the emotions of love and tenderness to fear\, terror and loss\, then finally to hope\, joy and celebration which culminates in John receiving “the Gift” of his voice. \nAitken and MacDonald are part of a national movement of First Nations actors\, musicians\, artists and film-makers utilizing the arts to move through the trauma and history of systemic racism and abuse into healing and creating a pathway towards reconciliation. \nAn artist\, activist\, dancer\, actor\, filmmaker\, educator and storyteller\, Aitken uses many mediums to advance the opportunity for intercultural dialogue. All performances of “the Gift” conclude with a talking circle\, where audience members are invited to stay and participate in the safe\, structured environment to share their observations and discuss the emotions raised during the performance.

SUMMARY:The Sunset Cabaret - 50th Edition!
Intended to be a fundraiser for the Sunset Theatre\, the Cabarets have become a tradition over the years. \nThe Sunset Cabarets were hosted by our beloved Tim Sutherland who gathered the group together to create a raucous and memorable evening.

SUMMARY:Woody Sed
DESCRIPTION:Written and performed by Tom Jones\nDirected by John Murphy \nWoody Sed is a “powerful piece delivered by a powerhouse talent” (Uptown Magazine) about the life and times of Woody Guthrie\, and the songs he sang about them. Woody said: “All you can write is what you see.” \nWell\, Woody Guthrie saw it and wrote about it–from the dust bowl of Oklahoma to the orange groves of California\, to the towers of New York City; from Hobo Jungles to Union rallies and the Merchant Marine. Both a biography of a seminal American musician and an epic drama of Greek proportions\, Woody Sed charts Guthrie’s rise to fame and his struggle to escape a harsh fate that dogged his footsteps to the end. \nFeaturing Woody’s songs\, the story offers a cascade of colorful characters\, all bundled up in a true to life tale. Woody was a provocative writer; his words ring as true today as they did in his own troubled times. Woody wrote and sang his truth and his songs still inspire us to join in and carry on. \n>>Woody Sed is pure magnificence.<< 5 stars – Tom Eremondi\, Saskatoon Star Phoenix
