SUMMARY:Sink or Swim
DESCRIPTION:Written and performed by Beverley Elliot\nDirected by Lynna Goldar Smith\nMusical Direction by Bill Costin \n“It’s Little House on the Prairie meets Lord of the Flies\,” says Elliott\, as she trades the safety of the family farm for the thugs of a one-room school. In this poignant\, playful\, and achingly relatable show\, Elliott navigates the uncharted waters\, big adventures\, betrayals and epiphanies that shape us all into the adults we become. It answers life’s big questions like “Why did I eat the fish food?” \n“Beverley Elliott is magnetic. It’s hard not to feel disappointed every time she walks off the stage.” – Erika Thorkelson\, Vancouver Sun \n“Elliott’s voice communicates a reassuring humanity.” –Tom Harrison\, The Province \n“…Beverley Elliott is charmingly freewheeling.” – Colin Thomas\, Georgia Straight \n“It’s a terrific show by an amazingly generous performer. Icing on this cake is her gorgeous voice.” – Jo Ledingham\, Vancouver Courier

SUMMARY:Artist Talk with Peter von Tiesenhausen
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the IMA School for an artist talk with Peter von Tiesenhausen\, by donation. \nPeter von Tiesenhausen’s multi-media work deals with concepts of time\, life\, voyage\, death\, spirit\, nature and humanity. His practice has grown from landscape painting to sculpture\, performance and complex media installations. These are often an expression of where he finds himself and a utilization of what is at hand. Peter claims copyright on his land as an artwork. In the early 90s he started making boats of ice on bodies of water surrounding his studio and home now\, no longer possible due to the wildly fluctuating climate. His film Island explores the meaning and significance of the human compulsion to strive in the natural world despite its changing ecosystems. \nPeter has lived and worked in the boreal forest of northwestern Canada for most of his life\, where he pursues his interest in sustainability. Peter has exhibited across Canada\, in Europe and in the U.S. in public galleries and throughout the landscape. In 2016 he participated in “Watershed+ Embedded Artist”\, City of Calgary; Banff Centre Leighton Studio Residency; and led CO2 Residency in Demmitt\, AB. Peter received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award in 2015. In 2018 Peter’s solo exhibition\, “Songs for Pythagoras” at the Art Gallery of Alberta was accompanied by a significant hardcover publication with texts by Lucy Lippard\, Natasha Chaykowski and Ellie Epp.

In the early 90s he started making boats of ice on bodies of water surrounding\nhis studio and home now\, no longer possible due to the wildly fluctuating climate. His film Island explores the meaning and significance of the human compulsion to strive in the natural world despite its changing ecosystems. Peter has lived and worked in the boreal forest of northwestern Canada for most of his life\, where he pursues his interest in sustainability. Peter has exhibited across Canada\, in Europe and in the U.S. in public galleries and throughout the landscape. In 2016 he participated in“Watershed+ Embedded Artist”\, City of Calgary; Banff Centre Leighton Studio Residency; and led CO2 Residency in Demmitt\, AB. Peter received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award in 2015.

SUMMARY:151st Dominion Day in Barkerville
DESCRIPTION:Canada’s very first Dominion Day celebration was held in Barkerville as a fervent display of support for Canadian confederation three years before British Columbia joined in 1871. \nJust past midnight on July 1\, 1868\, the Dominion of Canada’s first anniversary\, Barkerville citizens launched their own version of a 21 gun salute. Cannons were in short supply\, so black powder charges were detonated between stacked anvils\, providing a loud and raucous start to Canada’s inaugural birthday party. A full slate of activities followed throughout the day and long into the evening\, capped off with a fireworks display. \nIn 2019\, we celebrate much the same way\, with a tug of war\, funny face contest\, greasy pole climb\, egg toss\, races and lots more.\nScotiabank sponsors a giant cake\, and the House Hotel hosts an evening of entertainment\, dancing and refreshments!

SUMMARY:Molly's Comedy Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:What is Molly’s Comedy Cabaret? It is a comedic romp featuring the power house vocals of local actress and singer Molly Wilson. From Broadway to pop to Motown\, there is never a dull moment — and every show features a strong likelihood of puppetry! This just might be the best entertainment value in town! \n“With a vocal range as wide as Canada itself\, Wilson has the chops to successfully pull off the music of Celine Dion\, Aretha Franklin\, Queen and Whitney Houston to name a few. Add to that her delightful personality\, endearing stories and comedic timing\, and you’ve got “Molly’s Comedy Cabaret\,” an enjoyable hour with your new bestie\, Molly.” – Orlando Sentinel \n“Molly Wilson is wonderfully entertaining\, and truly knows how to reach an audience.” – Freeline Productions\, Orlando
