SUMMARY:Jam Camp in the Mountains
DESCRIPTION:Sign up today to bring your family and friends to Jam Camp in the Mountains in beautiful Wells. Create music with us in the alpine meadows of our small community! Stay in your tent or RV\, or choose from many lodging options in Wells and Barkerville. \nCamp activities will be in the Wells School and outside during good weather. You can join us no matter your age or musical ability – beginner and experienced musicians are all welcome. There will be many workshop and lesson choices for you to enjoy. \nThis year\, Jam Camp in the Mountains is partnering with Island Mountain Arts\, an organization with almost 50 years of history. They are leaders in the arts community in BC who host the ArtsWells Festival\, arts workshops\, artist residencies\, and a public gallery\, and partner with organizations like the Jam Camp Society. Learn more about Island Mountain Arts here. \nJam Camp in the Mountains is \n1 hour from Quesnel\, \n2 hours from Prince George\, and \n10 minutes from Barkerville Historic Site. \nDates\nJam Camp will begin on Sunday\, July 26. Campers are invited to arrive in Wells late morning or early afternoon and be set up by 5 pm. Our first official camp activity is the Welcome Potluck that evening. \nOur final performance takes place on the evening of Thursday\, July 30\, and Jam Camp ends on Friday\, July 31. Friday is a free day for packing up camp\, saying goodbyes\, and taking your last stroll in the area before you go. \nThe full schedule of the week’s events will be sent out closer to the date\, and will be similarly structured to those of past camps. Morning activities will start around 9am. Activities include full group workshops\, small group lessons\, and songwriting/musical project groups. Days include a lunch & leisure break\, a dinner & leisure break\, and evening activities wrapping up around 9pm. \nRegistration Fees\nAll folks participating in Jam Camp aged 4 and up will pay a sliding scale registration fee of $200 to $500 CAD per person. \nJam Camp fees cover 4.5 days of workshops\, activities\, and instruction. \nFees do not cover food or accommodation. Groups must make their own arrangements for accommodation (see Accommodation section below) and are responsible for their own meals. Campers can make their own food or visit local restaurants. \nThe sliding scale allows campers to choose the payment that suits their family or group best. If you are able to pay more than the base fee per person\, that will help keep camp affordable for everyone. \nNotes: \nE-transfer is the simplest way to pay for your registration. \nIf you pay via PayPal\, PayPal will charge a fee of approximately 3% of your total registration & camping fees. \nYou may also choose to help subsidize registration for a low-income attendee\, or to support the non-profit Jam Camp Society.

SUMMARY:Queenage Wasteland
DESCRIPTION:Following up from her hit show\, LARRY\, award-winning comedy creator Candy Roberts presents the world premiere of QUEENAGE WASTELAND! \nWhat if they lied? What if being a crazy cat lady is AMAZING? Like a modern-day Carol Burnett on acid\, Candy Roberts spins hilarious misadventures of a Gen-X childhood survivor. From freeze\, fawn & flee\, to fuck-you\, an autobiographical comedy about the pursuit of becoming a dangerous old woman. \nWith storytelling\, stand-up and clown\, Candy Roberts flips the “crazy cat lady” stereotype on its head and turns it into something intentional\, desirable\, and a little feral. She delivers true stories of trauma-response patterns with humour\, relatability\, and a truthful absurdity. \nLet’s forget about aging out of expectations. What does radical acceptance feel like? \nThis presentation is recommended for adults. \n“Once she gets you laughing\, she will not fucking let up.”– Colin Thomas – Simply the Best of 2019

SUMMARY:Punjabi Wabi Sabi
DESCRIPTION:Bollywood meets Breaking Bad? \nWhat if Saddam Hussein had a love child with Britney Spears? \nBristling with hilarious storytelling\, Punjabi Wabi Sabi is an irreverant\, autobiographical and moving stand-up show by Tahina Awan: a middle-aged\, delinquent\, perverted\, first-generation Canadian Muslim woman born in small town BC in the ’70s. \nGrowing up GenX is hard – especially when you’re a Muslim girl\, and you don’t want anyone to know! Join us as we follow our ill-behaved and sexually repressed narrator as she journeys through life trying to reconcile her identity amidst racism\, self-rejection\, deep trauma and raging hormones. \nOh\, and the 1980s. \nPart stand-up and part theatre\, this is a one-woman show that gets into the nitty gritty of who we are versus who the world wants us to be. This is a story about how the human spirit rages against its cages\, how we are basically all the same with different packaging\, and how we are perhaps more perfect because we’re all fucked up.

In traditional music\, swing brings the tunes to life. Without understanding it\, all the tunes would sound the same. This course is for those who wish to delve deeper into the traditional style and the most important swings of Breton music\, such as those found in the An dro\, the Hanter-dro\, and other typical dances. \nNo prior knowledge is required. You may have already played Breton music\, or you may not. We will begin by gradually learning a few tunes\, step by step\, and then we will explore arrangements and variations. The best way to feel the swing of a tune is to share it with others; therefore\, working in a group is essential. It may even be the only way to truly understand it. Ear training is indispensable in this workshop. \n____________________ \nSpecial Interest Class: Improvisation\nIn this workshop\, we’ll learn to improvise using tools to create groovy bass lines\, rich chords\, and melodic elements. No prior knowledge is required. We’ll proceed step by step\, using simple tools to grasp the process\, with a touch of theory and a dash of analysis (nothing complicated\, just for the joy of learning). Whether you learn by ear or with music\, you’re welcome. \n____________________ \nAbout Tristan\nOriginally from Brittany\, Tristan Le Govic holds a PhD in musicology from the University of Rennes. A gold medalist in Celtic harp and a graduate of the DEM (Diploma of Teaching Music) specializing in traditional music\, his musical and pedagogical style has been shaped by numerous exchanges\, particularly within the countries where he has lived: Ireland\, Scotland\, and Sweden. \nAs a soloist or with various ensembles\, he regularly performs at major music festivals\, including the Lorient Interceltic Festival\, the Dinan International Celtic Harp Festival\, and Yaouank in Rennes\, as well as in Germany (Interkeltisches Folkfestival)\, England (Harp on Wight)\, Belgium (HarpDag)\, Scotland (Celtic Connections\, Edinburgh International Harp Festival)\, Spain (Noia Harp Fest)\, Italy (Insubria\, Celtic Harp International Academy)\, the Netherlands (International Harp Friends Meeting)\, Wales (Cwlwm Celtaidd)\, the Czech Republic (Prague)\, Sweden (Nordic Harp Meeting\, Öresunds HarpHelg)\, the United States (Somerset Folk Harp Festival\, Seattle\, Los Angeles\, San Francisco\, New Orleans)\, Canada (Island Mountain Arts)\, and Russia (ArpaVita). \nIn 2018\, as part of a trio with Tangi Le Hénanff (double bass) and Alan Quéré-Moysan (drums)\, he won the Nevez Flamm trophy\, celebrating innovation in Fest Noz groups (folk dances). Their subsequent CD Dañs\, is the result of their collaboration. Publisher of numerous collections of sheet music for Celtic harp\, he notably published the Antologiezh Telenn Breizh (The Breton Harp Anthology)\, a three-volume collection featuring the best harpists in Brittany (Alan Stivell\, Kristen Noguès\, etc.). SUMMARY:Jake's Gift
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 20 years \nIn June 2004\, Julia Mackey travelled to Normandy\, France\, for the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. She attended many ceremonies\, walked the coastline and interviewed dozens of veterans who had returned for the occasion. The experiences of the veterans\, her own discoveries\, and a life long interest in Remembrance Day\, led to the development of the play in August of 2006 at The Sunset Theatre in Wells\, BC. \nTHE PLAY \nJake’s Gift is a multi-award winning Canadian play about a World War II veteran’s reluctant return to Normandy\, France\, for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. While revisiting the shores of Juno beach\, Jake encounters Isabelle\, a precocious 10-year-old from the local village. Isabelle’s inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to confront some long-ignored ghosts – most notably the war-time death of his eldest brother\, Chester\, a once promising young musician. At its heart\, Jake’s Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and makes personal the story behind one soldier’s grave. \nSince 2007\, Jake’s Gift has gone on to play at festivals and theatres in over 250 communities across Canada\, including International stops to Washington State\, the UK and Normandy\, France\, for the 70th & 73rd Anniversary of D-Day. In June 2019\, the company returned to Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. They presented performances in both French and English at the Juno Beach Centre and La Salle de la Mer in Bernières sur Mer as well as other communities and venues in Normandy. \nIn December 2025\, Julia received the Governor General Meritorious Service Cross Award for her work on Jake’s Gift.
