SUMMARY:Martha Ritchie: Boreal Relief
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Hours Wed – Sunday 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM \nBoreal Relief is a collection of linocut prints based on images drawn from the forest that surrounds my home and studio in the Yukon. \nWhat started as prints on paper have evolved into three-dimensional paper sculptures and wearable prints on clothing. The sculptures and clothing items echo the images of boreal flora and fauna found in the wall art\, creating a sense of being present in the natural environment. \nThe work in this collection is both a celebration of the beauty and tranquility of the boreal forest as well as an expression of a desire to blend into nature. \nIn our world\, there has been an increasing disconnection from the natural environment\, but recently there is a growing desire to reconnect with nature for reflection\, relaxation and healing. The past two years have heightened this longing for a peaceful escape. Spending time in the Boreal forest is a gift that can provide this relief. \nMartha Ritchie \nMartha Jane Ritchie is an Artist and Printmaker who lives in Haines Junction\, Yukon Territory\, Canada with her husband and two sons. \nWhile attending Emily Carr College of Art\, Martha majored in printmaking and discovered Linocuts. She graduated with honours and continued working in the medium for the next 30 years. \nHer current work is drawn from the natural environment that surrounds her home in Haines Junction\, Yukon. \nwww.martharitchie.com

SUMMARY:Spring s'Wells | May Melt Away
DESCRIPTION:The return of hummingbirds. The lengthening of the days. In May\, the dregs of winter begin to melt away.\n\nWe hope you’ll join Island Mountain Arts\, the Sunset Theatre and SARRAS (located in the former ‘The Amazing Space’ Gallery) on May 20th for an event that may just melt your heart. Spring s’Wells: May Melt Away\, sees the audience split into groups\, moving between three Wells venues\, making up one evening of supporting independent Canadian music from friends old and new. Bring your kind listening ears and your grooving shoes for this one!\nFor this event\, patrons will move between 3 performance venues\, taking in the fresh air of the night in between each of the sets. If mobility is a concern\, please get in contact with Elyssia Sasaki. (info@imarts.com).\n\nGenevieve Jaide is a northern blooded songstress with stories to tell. These stories will leave your foot tapping\, face smirking\, and transcend you into a state of almost awkward bliss. Her booming sweet jazzy voice captivates the audience and brings the room to a state of presence that is rare to witness. Her songs are lyrically heavy\, brutally honest and uncomfortably vulnerable\, you won’t want to miss a word. For this set\, she’s joined by Brock Patch.\nhttps://www.genevievejaide.com/\nSail Cassady came alive while reading ‘on the road’ by Jack Kerouac in 2012. The adventure\, art and imagery held within the parameters of a single book birthed the idea that the same concept could be experienced within a song or a band. Signed to Surkeus Records 2021\, watch out for Sail Cassady’s next record in late Summer 2022.\nhttps://sailcassady.bandcamp.com/\n\nSt. Arnaud is a little bit of everywhere to everyone. Working alongside his brother and fellow creative\, the YouTube animator GingerPale\, St.Arnaud found a loving home on YouTube and Spotify with legions of eager listeners and was swept up in dozens of tour dates across Canada\, Europe\, and the USA. His debut album was a DIY tour-de-force of fun-loving melodies overlaying themes of death\, loss\, and anxiety. His new album\, 2022’s Love and the Front Lawn continues the sad lyrics/happy melodies framework with flavours of off-the-wall rockers Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers\, Kevin Morby\, and Andy Shauf.\nhttps://www.starnaudband.com/\n\nThe event begins promptly at the Sunset Theatre at 7:00 PM – Doors are at 6:30 PM- get there early! Tickets are on sale now\, ranging in cost from $15.00 – $30.00. You can find them online at www.imarts.com under “Online Shop & Tickets.”\n\nIsland Mountain Arts is committed to following Provincial Health orders and Northern Health’s guidelines when it comes to facilitating events through the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. As of April 8th\, 2022\, vaccine passports will not be required for our events.\n\nAt this time\, we encourage event participants to don masks as personal protective equipment while participating in our events.\nIsland Mountain Arts will continue to monitor and abide by protocols set out by the Government of BC.
